Autumn Term: ‘Journeys’
In the Autumn term our topic will be ‘Journeys’. We will be travelling around the world – from the comfort of our classroom! We will learn about the different continents on our planet and discover the vast differences between other countries and our own, including beliefs, culture and food. We will learn about the locomotive engine pioneer George Stephenson and how he revolutionised the way people travel. We’ll explore other things that move by investigating wheels and axles and have a go at making our own wheeled vehicles. We will also travel by train to the National Railway Museum in York to learn more about George Stephenson.
Spring Term ‘Life as we know it’
During the Spring term our overarching theme will be ‘Life as we know it’. We will learn about how life has changed using our grandparent’s knowledge to help us and also how we have changed since we were babies. In science we will be looking at animals, including ourselves, and plants, learning about living things and what they need to survive. We will also be making sure we know how important it is to keep ours healthy and clean. As well as that, we will be comparing plants that grow in our country to those that grow in the rainforest. We will also be visiting Alnwick castle in April to prepare us for our summer term topic.
Summer Term ‘Castles
Finally in the Summer term, our topic will be ‘Castles’. We will be finding out who lived in castles, what they were like inside and what they were used for. We will use this research to become authors of our own information books, as well as creating lots of 2D media and 3D models of castles. In Science, we will investigate various materials and their uses, here we’ll look at various forms of weaving and find out how tapestries were made to adorn the walls of medieval castles..
