Following the announcement this evening by Boris Johnson, school is now closed to all children except those of key workers and those with a social worker. We will update you all as soon as we receive more information. Information regarding home learning and free school meals will be released in due course. October 2020 Updates

We are very much looking forward to seeing all our children return in September, for what we hope will be a successful academic year. Guidance for returning can be found below which outlines staggered start times, different entrances and your frequently asked questions. 10th June 2020 – Reopening Guidance
Following the delay to reopening, South Hetton Primary School will be reopening on Monday 15th June 2020 for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children. Key Worker children can also continue to attend.
The following guidance and risk assessments for each group is shown below. Please take time to read the information and share this with your child so they know what to expect. If you have any queries please get in touch with school and we will do our best to help you.

We now have a dedicated new Home Learning page on our website, this will include all the information you need to support your child during the current lockdown. It can be accessed here, or via the menu option at the top of the main homepage.

Welcome back after the Easter break, we hope that everyone is still safe and well and are ready to start on their summer menus. If you need a copy they can be downloaded from the link below or call school and we can arrange to print one for you. Don’t forget you can also collect paper, pencils etc if you need them whilst out on your daily walk.

Below are links to each class menu of activities for after Easter, these should last 3 weeks.
Children should also look daily online at white Rose for maths and bug club for reading. Bug club logins are the first 4 letters of first name and first 4 letters of surname.(if name is only 3 letters then that is it). school code is QSCT. Passwords are blue20.

1st April 2020
Following the Government announcement regarding free school meals we can confirm that school will not be issuing online vouchers.
If your child is currently in receipt of free school meals, during term time, you may order a packed lunch by telephoning school (0191 526 1662) by 9:30am each day. Lunches will be ready to collect from school at 12pm.
This will be reviewed again after the Easter holidays.

Following the Government advice, schools will close to almost all children on Friday 20th March 2020. For more detailed information please see the Government official web page here.
Key Worker Children
If your occupation falls under one of the key worker positions, we will be able to provide childcare during normal school hours. Note this is only for children on our school roll.

Please can we stress though this is only if it is absolutely necessary to send your child to school. School closures are to help slow the spread of the virus and we do not want to expose our children to potential risks more than we have to.
What will my child do at home?
Children will be sent home with homework packs with enough work for the next 10 school days to take them up to the Easter holidays. Children will also have access to the following online sites:

- Times Tables Rockstars
- Language Angels
As well as these websites children can also access free of charge the following ( this list is not exhaustive and there are lots of other resources available):
- Phonics Play
- BBC Bitesize
- Joe Wicks (You Tube Channel) will be providing PE sessions at 9am
- Cosmic Yoga
- Classroom Secrets Kids
- Twinkl – you can register and get a limited time for free

19th March 2020
We have been instructed by the Government to close the school to all children on Friday 20th March until further notice.
School will remain open for children of key workers only. We are awaiting clarification on the term key workers and will be intouch with parents / carers when we receive this information.
What about my child?
The learning of every child is incredibly important to us so to continue your child’s learning we have put together a range of homework packs which will be given out on Friday 20th March to all children in school. If your child is currently absent from school please collect a pack from the school office from Monday 23rd March onwards.
If you need any support during this time please use our normal communication channels and we will do our best to help, staff will not respond to requests on Facebook or any other social media.
My child is entitled to a free school meal?
If your child is currently in receipt of a free school meal we have already been in touch – please see the message via the Xpressions app. Please let school know asap if you wish your child to have a hot meal.
What about school trips?
School trips have currently been either cancelled or postponed for the foreseeable future, we will continue to update parents and carers in due course.
What about assessments and exams?
The UK Government have cancelled all formal testing including:
- Year 6 SATs
- Year 2 SATs
- Y1 Phonics Screening
- Y4 Times table test
We understand that this can be very frustrating for the children who have been working so hard for these assessments but we will continue to follow the Government advice.
This is all we know for now we will keep you as up to date as we possibly can via Xpressions App and the school website.
12th March 2020
As you may be aware, there have been some confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the UK and understandably there is some concern among local school communities.
The DfE provides daily advice to schools and current advice is that the risk to pupils is small and everyone should go about their daily routine as they would normally.
Procedures have been put into place by Tudhoe Learning Trust IF any further action needs to be taken and school should need to close. Parents will be informed immediately if this should occur.
